Celebrating Chanukah in Orlando
Traveling during the holiday season brings joy, wonder, and excitement. However, when you are far away from home and the celebrations you love, you may find yourself feeling a bit homesick. But just because you are off exploring the world however doesn’t mean that you should have to miss out on your favorite holiday traditions. If you are visiting Orlando during the holiday season there are many Chanukah celebrations available that the whole family can enjoy. Check out three of our favorites below.
Chanukah on the Park
Central Florida offers many fun festivals and celebrations for Chanukah but one of the most popular is Winter Park’s Chanukah on the Park. The family-friendly festival offers plenty of carnival-like fun that kids of all ages are sure to love. In past years, festival entertainment has included photo booths, face painting, kid-friendly arts and crafts projects, as well as acrobats, magicians, Chassidic dancers, and live music. In the evening, honor the tradition of the holiday with a menorah lighting ceremony. There will be plenty of food and drink available for purchase. The festival is free to attend and open to all.
Menorah Car Parade
For one of the coolest ways to celebrate this season, join locals in a fun menorah car parade. Although the parades can be found worldwide, the tradition began in America during the 1970s before public menorah lightings became popular. Vacation is the perfect time to try new things so if you’ve never participated in a menorah car parade before, now is the time to try it. Kids can ride in the stretch limo that leads the parade. The parade includes a police escort, music, and lights, as you make your way from the Chabad of South Orlando to a local menorah lighting ceremony.
Chanukah Shabbat Dinner
If you are looking to attend a Shabbat dinner while in Orlando, the Chabad of Greater Orlando has you covered. Enjoy an evening with the local Jewish community as you honor the holidays and savor a delicious five-course Shabbat dinner that includes menorah lighting, candle lighting, and a Shabbat service. Advance reservations are required so be sure to visit the Chabad of Greater Orlando’s website to reserve your seats.
