What to Expect at the 2022 Florida Film Festival
The 2022 Florida Film Festival, hosted by the Enzian Theatre, is known as one of the best film festivals in the United States that showcases independent and foreign films.
This year, on its 31st year since the festival started, expect over 160 films and 23 world premieres from 31 countries.
What is the 2022 Florida Film Festival?
The Florida Film Festival is an Oscar®-qualifying festival that shows the best American independent and international films.
The festival lasts 10 days. It’s full of films, first-class events, conversations with other film lovers and makers, cocktails, and food. The festival takes place at the Enzian Theater located in Maitland, Florida. Oscar®-qualifying categories include live-action, animated, and documentary. As such, the Florida Film Festival remains the only Oscar-accredited festival in the state. The winners of the Grand Jury Awards for Best Short in the categories listed above will automatically qualify to enter the Live Action Short Film and Documentary Short Film categories in the next year’s Academy Awards.
New to the film festival this year are two new categories: Virtual Reality and New Media.
Since online content has been increasing in popularity in streaming, that’s how the idea of virtual reality and new media came about. It allows the festival the opportunity to use online streaming services to grow their offerings and show new voices.
Awards and Prizes
There are five Grand Jury Awards for Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short, and Best Animated Short.
The winners for Best Narrative Short, Best Animated Short, and Best Documentary Short automatically qualify the winner for the next year’s Academy Awards in the same categories.
There are also six Audience Awards for Best Narrative Feature. Best Documentary Feature, Best Short Film, Best Midnight Sort, Best International Feature, and Best International Short.
The Rules to Enter the 2022 Florida Film Festival
